Augustly

Work, play, and travel have been in full effect this August. Between finishing my summer stint in the northern rockies, riding trains and driving roundtrip across the country (Missoula, Portland, Los Angeles, San Diego, and Chicago), catching some beach-time and hitting a music festival, it seems that once again time has slipped away into the depths of... time. But despair not, because I can remember a few of the puzzle-pieces that made August so supremely worthwhile. Without further ado, here is my list of Augustly essentials.

Hailed by Pete Tong as the breakthrough DJ of the year, Maya Jane Coles has earned the respect of many by producing and remixing some of the top tracks of the year as she charted her way through the summer. This mix is two hours of Maya Jane Coles' essential selections, which means it's tech-house with a future-classic vibe.

Reverberating dreamlike vocals carry an echo through a world of embellishments and emotional swells. When the kick drops away what's left is a promise to "try, and I'll see what I've become." As a wisp of reverb falls back on itself a square-wave determinedly drives the mood forward towards higher ground... Check out the video of the original mix, too.

There's a party going on...

Bringing this list full circle is the Bristol-based producer Arkist, of whom I'm looking forward to hearing more...

Let There Be House

Beni is back in the limelight and this time around he has a full LP in his bag of tricks. The first glimpse of the album is the bouncy disco-house track "It's a Bubble" which was released along with a behind-the-scenes documentary of assembling the bubble crew and an instructional video for how to do the bubble dance. What's more, Beni has even extended an invitation for anyone to send him their interpretation of the bubble to compete for spot on the crew. Check out Modular's Beni page for all of the above.

Bubble aside, though, Beni recently presented us with Modular's Modcast #83 which we found to be a delightfully pleasurable journey and felt that it was must be shared. Listen here.

Pacific Festival: OC 2011

In their second year, the Pacific Festival: OC has arranged a massive line-up headlined by Orange County-native Snoop Dogg and featuring a 'who's who' of hype-worthy artists such as Cut Copy, Toro y Moi, Jacques Renault, Classixx, and more. In true LA/OC fashion, the festival presents itself with an air of faux-celebrity as displayed in the official trailer by the Cobra Snake.

We've been longing to make it to one of Steve Aoki and Collaborative Media's events for some time now (or since we started getting their emails a few years ago). So, we feel pretty lucky that our opportunity to make it the West Coast will coincide with this year's Pacific Festival: OC. Moreover, with a lineup thats loaded with talent, we're looking forward to enjoying some of the best music in the indie and electronic scenes. Below are a few of the artists that we're eager to check out along with the full line-up.

Headman - Dirt (The C90s Remix) by TheC90s

Poolside - Do You Believe (Jacques Renault Remix feat. Tiffany Roth) by JacquesRenault

Reginald's Groove (Classixx Remix) - Cosmic Kids by Classixx
